Natural Wig Care Tips

It is important to take care of your natural wig

A natural hair wig usually lasts less than 1 year. Discover below all our advice on how to extend the life span of your natural wig.

How do I Brush my Natural Hair Wig?

Even before washing your wig, you will need to untangle it. For straight hair, delicately brush it with a wooden brush, starting from the ends. For curly, frizzy or wavy hair, use a wide-toothed comb or gently untangle with your fingers.

How do I Wash my Natural Hair Wig?

  • After untangling, you should rinse your wig under warm running water with the help of some mild wig shampoo. Avoid soaking the wig as it can damage it

  • To keep your wig shiny, you can apply some wig ointment and leave it to sit for 5 minutes. Rinse with warm water and then let dry

  • If you have a wig stand, you can let your wig dry on it. If you do not have a special stand, leave it to sit on a towel while it dries. Always let your wig dry in an open, well ventilated area

  • Once your wig has dried, delicately style it. If it is curly or frizzy, you can use hair rollers or a hair straightener to change styles. For straight hair, you can also use a hair straightener. Use the lowest temperature possible as, like all natural hair, it can be damaged

  • You can use a special natural wig hair mask that will repair and protect the hair before styling (no rinsing required)

  • The frequency that you wash your wig depends on several factors: how often you wear your wig, how often you wash your hair normally, humidity… The ideal solution would be to wash your wig about once every week

  • To limit the number of washes and conserve your wig for as long as possible, you can wear a small bamboo cap under your wig that you wash each night before going to sleep

How do I Store my Natural Hair Wig?

  • Do not leave your wig out as it’s a real dust gatherer!

  • After wearing your wig, leave it out to air for several hours with the cap turned inside-out before putting it in its box

  • To store your wig, put some rolled up tissue paper inside it, place it in its netting and lay it flat in its box

What Else Can I do with a Natural Hair Wig?

  • You can dye your wig if you have not found a colour that suits you. Dying your hair is possible but there is a risk that the wig cap will be coloured as well

  • You can cut your hair as often as you like and in different ways. Just be careful not to damage the cap with the scissors

  • You can use hair gel, spray and coloured spray. Be aware that these products will damage your wig over time, just like with normal hair
