Our temporary textile breast forms from Amoena or Anita are ideal after a total mastectomy or partial mastectomy. These breast forms made of cotton or microfibre can be worn immediately after a breast surgery. They will not irritate fragile skin caused by cancer treatments and allow gentle postoperative care! Usually they are worn in the first couple of weeks or 2 months after surgery. These forms can also be used during the radiation therapy post-surgery.

Why an external textile breast prosthesis after breast surgery?

External textile breast prostheses are very easy to wear and are made of breathable cotton. They are perfect for achieving a balanced silhouette during the first two months after your surgery. They restore symmetry to your breasts to help you get through the period of adjusting to your new silhouette.

If you are offered this textile breast prosthesis in the first few months after surgery, it is because wearing a silicone breast prosthesis would be too painful to bear. This is because it would press and pull on your scar, making the recovery period painful and hard to bear. So don't rush and choose a breast prosthesis that is suitable for your recovery period.

By the way, the transitional breast prosthesis is worn with a matching post-op bra or a post-mastectomy bra. You can find all post-mastectomy bras in the "Immediately after surgery" category.

How to choose an external transient breast prosthesis?

The selection of transient breast prostheses is very simple. In fact, the models are all essentially the same. Both in the Anita Care breast prosthesis catalog and at Amoena you will find :

- The standard transitional prostheses

- The Premium transitional prostheses

Premium textile prostheses simply have fewer seams on the top of the prosthesis and are therefore slightly more inconspicuous under tight-fitting clothing.

However, the most important thing to consider when choosing your transitional prosthesis is size! To determine your external breast prosthesis size, all you need is your bra size. Then, on each page where a prosthesis is featured, you will find a sizing chart that will show you your prosthesis size.

You will also notice that the textile transitional prostheses are made in two sizes. This can be easily explained. Namely, the inner foam is removable, so you can add or remove it as you see fit, depending on how your physique develops after breast surgery.

To choose the right size, just choose the duo of the size that matches the information in the size charts. For example:

- I wear a bra in 95B, the size chart tells me to take a size 8 prosthesis, so I choose my external breast prosthesis in size 7/8.

- I wear a bra in 105C, the prosthesis chart tells me I should wear a size 11 prosthesis, so I choose my Priform prosthesis in size 11/12.
